In Short
This elegant space's soaring ficus trees, subdued lighting and velvet curtains create a sophisticated ambiance befitting its chic clientle; woodsy antler chandeliers and eclectic wall art makes for an ideal backdrop for Chef Aaron Barnett's artful moern French cuisine. The seasonally driven menu features bright layers of flavor in each playfully presented dish. Standouts include a campari cured salmon salad, a delicate golden trout entrée decorated with grilled baby octopus and olive oil potatoes, and expertly prepared steaks such as a grilled rib eye served with a braised celery, celeriac and white chocolate puree, chanterelles, and decadent black truffle jus.

What to EatStart with the chef's selection of four tastings (or the decouverte de cuisine) -- perhaps braised escargot or crispy sweetbreads sided with bitty pearl onions, pancetta, and wild mushrooms.
What to DrinkThe Zefiro cocktail, an old favorite from Israel's former restaurant is a welcome return for Portland diners.

I just moved into The Westerly and so happy to have a neighborhood restaurant I like this much. The bar is really comfy and the happy hour and bar menu are inexpensive with good choices. I like their burger quite a bit and after a couple of drinks I can just walk home. I am going to try JoBar next. I just love the Northwest neighborhood. You can walk everywhere.
Pros: Burger, in my neighborhood

We had a great time. It was hard to get a reservation but they had a no cancellation policy for the night and a $25 cancellation fee if one did, but after being told that this policy was only for New Year's Eve due to its craziness and the restaurant often receiving "no shows" on New Year's Eve's of the past, we found it acceptable and understandable, but it always bothers me to be asked for a credit card to secure a restaurant reservation. I have experienced this at New York restaurants but not in Portland. In any case, the food was delicious, the room was nice and the evening overall was very pleasant. I would recommend this restaurant to friends, but choose somewhere else to go on major holidays if you don't want to be bothered with the strict reservation policies. Try the chicken dish. It was heavenly.
Pros: Food, Service, Room and Music
Cons: Strict holiday reservation policy
