Cozy Traditional Italian-Style Dining

  • Powerful Italian Wines
  • Nominally Northern Italian
  • Daily-Made Pasta

The pleasingly inventive menu at this new 24-seat nook follows traditional Italian-style dining? antipasti (appetizer) followed by primi (first course), followed by secondi (second course) and then served with cheese and desserts. Choose a la carte from any or all of those courses, but don't miss the meaty yet subtle sardines with refreshing green onion, and delectably light homemade papardelle with artichokes and cream. Diners, including hipster neighborhood locals and curious couples from across Portland, enter through the compact kitchen run by culinary notables Greg Perrault (of the critically acclaimed Tasting Room in New York City) and sous chef Melissa Pelletier (formerly of Fife in Portland). Let the wine maestro, Austin Bridges, surprise you with a spot-on selection from his passionately compiled all-Italian wine list.

Editorial Review for DOC – by Ashley Gartland

In Short
A quick walk through this open kitchen delivers diners into one of Portland's most charming dining rooms. Elegant black glass chandeliers, cream-colored walls, and a small cluster of tables create an intimate setting, perfect for a special occasion as well as a casual evening out. Chef Greg Perrault's precise cuisine approaches perfection in dishes like an heirloom tomatoes salad dressed with mozzarella and fragrant bush basil, and a tender squid starter stuffed with bread, lemon, and parsley. The Italian-influenced menu might also feature a toothsome risotto, as well as main courses like a fork-tender red-banded rock cod set atop cherry tomatoes and drizzled with parsley lemon sauce.

Know Before You Go

The fee for a bread plate here is worth paying as the kitchen sources it from Ken's Artisan Bakery and sides it with enormous bright green olives.

What to Drink

Any wine your server suggests. The attentive staff's depth of knowledge is astounding, and server recommendations from the Italian wine list will both surprise and pleasure the palate.

Great wine list that is very reasonably priced, the quality and freshness of the food was unsurpassed. Poached tuna starter, beef cheeks with melon, perfectly cooked porcini-pancetta risotto, wonderful lamb shamk with sweet and sour husk tomato relish, OH AND THE RABBIT KIDNEYS. Wonderful preparation of such an under utlized part with dandelion greens, fresh shell beans and ciopolinni onions. Two thumbs way up.......

Pros: Food and wine oriented

Cons: cant think of any
